A hard lesson or just a reminder? 

洗礼？それともただのリマインダー？ Part 1




Travelling to unfamiliar places means full of excitement to me. This time it was in Abu Dhabi where I had a layover. Since I was flying with Etihad Airways, I decided to take advantage of Abu Dhabi Stopover campaign which offers 2 nights free stay at a 4 star hotel in the city😋 I didn't get to choose a hotel but it was Aloft which belongs to Marriot group.

I was so excited to explore the city especially three iconic spots including Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Emirates Palace.

私にとって知らない場所に出かけることはワクワクの連続。今回ワクワクさせてくれたのは乗り継ぎで訪れたアブダビでした。エティハド航空のキャンペーンを利用してアブダビの4つ星ホテル宿泊２泊を無料でゲットしたのでした。ホテルは選べませんが、マリオット系列のAloftでした。

特に有名どころ３か所、シェイクザイード・グランドモスク、ルーブル美術館、エミレーツパレスを楽しみにしていました。

Anyways, let me share some of lessons learned or rather reminders which I came across visiting those places instead of just simply talk about my experiences. Those were actually nothing new to me but I just forgot about them after three years of pandemic stuff. I was like "Yes, this is what happens when travelling abroad".
さてさて、アブダビでは「洗礼」？それとも「リマインダー」？と感じたことがいくつかあったのでシェアさせていただきます！どれも3年間の「ぱんでみっく」のおかげで忘れてて、ああこれぞ海外懐かし～～～となったのでした！

1. Exceptional heat!
As soon as I got off the plane, I felt the uncomfortably warm wind even thought it was in the middle of night. It definitely brought back my memories of Cambodia or Thailand and made me realize that I've gotten out of Japan.
飛行機を降りたとき現地は夜中だったにも関わらずカンボジアやタイを思い出させるような生ぬるーい風。あ、海外に来たなって思いました。

Next day the heat got stronger as the sun was up high. I visited Grand Mosque at nine in the morning but the temperature was already reaching 40 degrees. As I had to cover my body as well as my hair at the Mosque (I was wearing a long black dress along with a scarf so that hopefully I could hide in a plain sight), it was boiling hot and I couldn't stay there any longer than 30 minutes.
Can't believe Muslim women have to wear abaya whenever they go public throughout the year.
And I really hope you can feel the heat from the photo. 
翌日日が昇るとその暑さはより増していきました。朝９時ころシェイクザイード・グランドモスクを訪れた時気温はもうすでに40度！モスクでは肌や髪を覆わなければいけなかったので（この日わたくし現地の人たちになじむべく黒のロングワンピース＋頭にスカーフという装いでした）それはそれは暑くて30分も居られませんでした！
イスラムの女性たち一年中外に出る時はあの真っ黒のアバヤを着なきゃならないなんて信じられない。。。
そして写真から暑さも伝わればいいのに。



Waiting for the bus at the bus stop in the afternoon felt like some sort of practice thanks to the exceptional heat, in Japanese "Syugyo"!😝
Later in the afternoon I bought an ice cream at Kiosk at the bus terminal but it seemed that it was already melted before it was put in the store's freezer😂 We can see that it would never happen in Japan but it is not a big deal there.

How about the locals? I was wondering if they are used to the heat but they didn't look so. They were always trying to find shades or stay inside buildings just like a Japanese tourist.
午後になりバス停でバスを待つ時間は、暑くてなんかの修行か？と思えるほど。
バスターミナルのキオスクでアイスを買ったのですが、開封すると店の冷凍庫に入れられる前に溶けてたでしょうという見た目でした。日本ではありえないけど海外ではあるある。

現地人はというと、、、暑さには慣れっこかと思いきや彼らも日陰を探したりなるべく建物内に留まろうとしていて日本人の観光客と大して感じ方に変わりはないようでした！

This is how it looked when I opened the package, making me wanna laugh and bringing back my memories!

I was originally planning to visit Emirate Palace to have a famous gold cappuccino but I was exhausted from the heat and hustle of getting to Louvre (I'll talk about it in another episode) so I decided not to go and rather reserve my energy for my coming flight to Europe. Pity but no regret. Because I'd already had a lot of fun, feeling the vibe of the city, listening to Koran (I love listening to Koran for some reasons ever since I visited Egypt and Turkey), looking at some historical art pieces and talking to friendly locals.
最初、エミレーツパレスに行ってあの有名な金粉カプチーノを飲もうと思っていたのですが、暑さとルーブルにたどり着くまでのいろいろごたごたで消耗してしまい、行くのを止めて次のヨーロッパ便のフライトに向けてエネルギーを取っておくことにしました。残念でしたが、後悔はありませんでした。街の雰囲気を感じて、コーランを聞いて（エジプトとトルコへ行って以来コーランを聞くのが好きなんです）、フレンドリーな街の人たちとおしゃべりして、十分楽しんだと実感があったので。

And I should probably note that once you walk into a building, it is freezing cold like you are in a fridge. It is very typical in most Asian countries. I had to put one more layer on when staying inside buildings. Even in the hotel room, I actually switched off the air conditioner. It was so cold! This is another reminder for people travelling to hot countries: Take your long sleeve shirt.
それからもう一つ。アジアの国のあるあるですが、一歩建物内に入るとそこはまるで冷蔵庫。すごく寒いです。建物内にいる時は必ずもう1枚羽織っていました。ホテルの部屋でも寒くてエアコン切ってたほどです。なのでこれも暑い国を旅行する人へのリマインダー：長袖をお忘れなく！
