  ドラマから学ぶワンフレーズ Episode 7: Rat you out 今回はSuits Season 1 Episode 7 冒頭部分から 自転車で 通勤してきたMikeが コーヒーを持って歩いているレイチェルにぶつかるシーンをピックアップ I'll rat you out. チクってやる Mike: 　 Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Oh, God, I'm so sorry. Are you okay? わー、ごめん、大丈夫？ Rachel:  You know there are  easier ways to k*ll me, if you're worried あの事が心配で私を殺したいなら、もっといいやり方があるでしょ ※ways to kill me　不定詞で、～するための方法 ※be worried 人の状態を表すのでbe動詞＋過去分詞の形で I'll rat you out for cheating on the LSATs. LSAT の替え玉のことチクってやるんだから ※ここのforは "because of"のようなニュアンス Mike:  What? Come on, Rachel. 頼むよレイチェル。 ※Come onは、相手を説得したい、機嫌を損ねた人の気持ちをこちらに向けたいときによく使われる一言 R:  Unbelievable. 信じらんない ratとは元々「ねずみ」ですよね。 rat someone out で、密告する、見捨てる、告げ口するという意味があります。 ここではMikeが不正を働いていたことを知ったRachelが「ばらしちゃうからね！」という意味で使っています。 でもなぜrat???ネズミは沈みかけている船からも、倒壊しそうな建物からもするするっと逃げ出して自分だけ助かろうとするからというような説をどこかで以前読んだことがあります。 また密告者を"snitch"ということもできます。 例えば"I don't want to be a snitch but..."と言えば「告げ口するわけじゃないけど...」という感じです。

Trust VS Believe 「信じる」は、trust? believe? (1) Trust　信頼する trustするのは「人物」です。よって目的語には人が来ます。 その人のことをそっくりそのまま信頼しているニュアンスです 例 A: Hey, you've gotta trust me. I won't let you down. 私のこと信じてよ。がっかりさせたりはしないから。 B: Are you sure？ 本当？ (2) believe　信じる believeはひとつひとつの出来事や人の話を信じると言いたいときに使います。 目的語には人も物も使えますが、"I believe you."は"I believe what you just said."「あなたの言ったことを信じる」というニュアンスで、"I trust you."の信頼するとは意味が変わってくるので注意です 例 A: Hey, I saw a ghost last night. ねえ、昨日の夜お化けを見たんだ B: What are you talking about? 何言ってんの？ A: I said I saw a ghost. だから、お化けを見たって言ったの B: Yeah, right, I believe you. はいはい、信じるよ。 (3) believe in　可能性を信じる "I believe in you."と言うと今度は「あなたが○○をできる可能性を信じてる」という意味になります 例 A: I will become an astronaut one day. 僕はいつか宇宙飛行士になる B: You will. I believe in you. なれるよ。あなたならできる。 (4) count on　信じる 進行形で"I'm counting on you."で使われることが多いこの表現。 ニュアンスとしては「任せたよ！（君ならやってくれるって信じて）」です。 "count on me"なら逆に「任せといて！」です。 count on + 人で使いましょう！ 例 A: How are you going with th
