実践英語⑱ 意外なgoの使い方 第2回

There are more ways to use "go". Here we go! This time I'm gonna introduce some phrasal verbs.
まだまだある"go"の使い方。では行きましょう！今回は主に句動詞です。

⑥　go through　
（１）経験する (ただ楽しい経験よりはつらい経験に使われるイメージです）

例その１：
He's been going through a lot at work and he needs some time alone for now.
彼今仕事が大変みたいで、今ちょっと一人になりたいんだよ。

例その２：
I know what it's like because I've gone through it.
私も経験あるからわかるよ

※似た表現に"get through"がありますが、こちらはgoよりも切り抜けるのが大変な感じ、「突破する」ニュアンスです。
例
We'll get through this together. I'm here for you.
私たちやらやり通せる。私がついてる。

(2)　目を通す、探す（最初から最後まで、上から下まで通り抜けるイメージ）

例その1：
I'm going through my wardrobe. Hope I can find something to wear to the ceremony.
クローゼット見てみる。式典に着てくものが見つかればいいな。

例その2:
I've gone through the inventory and we are short of product A.
在庫一通り確認したんですが、Aが欠品しそうです。

⑦　go over よく調べる、確認する（1つ1つチェックする、答え合わせする、復習すること）

例その1：
How did you go? Do you wanna go over the answers?
どうだった？答え合わせしようか？

例その2：
Could you go over those documents and let me know if something is off.
その書類確認してくれる？もし変なとこあったら教えて。

⑧　go on 続ける

例その1：
Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you. Please go on.
邪魔するつもりはなかった、ごめん。そのまま続けて。

例その2：
He goes on and on and never stops.
彼ひたすらしゃべり続けるんだよ

⑨　let go of, let ... go　手放す（物理的に、手に掴んでいたものを離すことです）

例その1：
I accidently let go of the lead and my dog just took off.
うっかりリードを離しちゃって、犬が逃げてった

例その2：
Hey, let him go. He doesn't like it.（ここでの彼は、ペットの犬を想定）
離してあげて。嫌がっているよ。

※let goは受け流すという意味でも使われます。
例：
Don't take it personally. Just let it go.
個人的に受け止めないでもう気にするのはやめて。


It feels like there are more useful expressions but I'll stop here for today. Let me update if I come up with some more.
なんだかまだまだありそうな気はしますが、今回はここまで。また思い出したら追記します。

The project costs 20 billion dollars and though the bulk of the money is entails, some of it will come from the government which is throwing 52 billion dollars in subsidies of the semiconductor industry.   It’s part of the flood of money the government is directing towards industry investment in a plan to outrun China and retain economic superiority in the 21 st century. But it will take 7000 construction workers to build the plant and three thousand operators. The vast expenses of parking lot areas in places like Walmart or within the housing projects illustrates its importance. But there is a new issue in parking landscape with two possible solutions. The dilemma: how can city officials implement varying parking charges for different cars to increase revenue while maintaining fairness for car owners? Solution one: What about charging more for cars that emit more pollutants ? It seems sensible considering global focus on climate change. Solution two: What about if we charge larger, heavier vehicles more because they consume more parking space? Both these ideas are being tested worldwide. In the UK, for example, driving a fossil fuel power dirty car in cities like London or Dublin means you'll be paying through the nose . Your parking fee would be double compared to eco-friendly vehicles.
