不思議その⑤：People are so laid back

I like Aussies because they are easy-going.

オージーの細かいところを気にしないところ、好きです💞

They are mostly laid-back and happy people who just want to enjoy their livings.

みな人生を楽しんでいて、大らかでハッピーな人がとても多い😙

I really appreciate their warm attitude as they helped me in many ways.

そんな態度に何度も助けられました💛

BUT their laid back attitude sometimes made me confused.

が、のんびりしているからこその態度により、私は困惑したこともありました🙈

ポイント：

私を○○にさせる（使役動詞makeの使い方）

make me 形容詞、または make me 動詞の原形 (不定詞と違い動詞の前に"to"は不要）

例文

Going on a vacation makes me happy.

旅行に行くことは私を幸せな気持ちにさせる

The waiter made me wait in a long line.

ウェイターは私を行列に並んで待たせた

○○に～をさせるを使ってみましょう

飛行機に乗ることは私を不安にさせます😧

ガイドさんは私に彼女の荷物を運ばせた😒

(1) Disaster 1: Buses never come on time, people never come on time

I used to go to my collage by bus but they never run on time.

Oh well, that's the Aussie way. Take a deep breath.

I eventually got used to it and decided to go to the bus stop

without checking timetables because there is no point.

And average Aussies don't show up on time.

Although Japanese are often trained to do things five minutes earlier, 

that's not the way it is in other countries.

You just have to learn how to be patient.

Let them take their time！

used to 動詞原型　以前よく～していた（過去の習慣）

run on time　時間通り運行する

take a deep breath　深呼吸する

eventually　次第に

get used to 名詞/動名詞　～に慣れる

without　～することなく

show up　現れる

although　～だけれども（接続詞）

learn how to～　～の仕方を学ぶ

patient　忍耐強い、我慢強い

let 人+動詞の原形　人に～させてあげる（使役動詞）

Have you ever waited for a public transport for a long time?

公共の交通機関を長時間待ったことはありますか？

ポイント：

人に○○をさせてあげる（使役動詞letの使い方）

let ～ 動詞の原形　(不定詞と違い動詞の前に"to"は不要）

※letは "let-let-let" と時制に関わらず形を変えない動詞

I'll let you use my credit card.

私のクレジットカード使わせてあげる

He let me stay in the most luxury hotel in the city.

彼は私に町で一番高級なホテルに泊まらせてくれた。

let ○○ ～　

○○に～させてあげるを使ってみましょう

私に、あなたに町を案内させてよ。(show you around)

運転手は私をタクシーから降りさせなかった（get off) 　怖かった！（freak out)

私と一緒にダイビングさせてあげるよ

タクシーが来たら教えてくれませんか？

(2) Disaster 2: Blow off😤

People like electricians, plumbers as well as clerks at banks and phone company 

and real estate agents often blow off appointments.

They don't show up or they never get back to you even though they say they would.

It sucks! Really sucks！

But it gave me a good opportunity to learn how to negotiate with people😯

To get them to do their job, I needed to push them hard.

If not, you're not gonna be able to get things done.

I decided not to believe what they say 😆

Just to make me feel better.

blow off　すっぽかす、さぼる

plumber　水道屋

real estate agent　不動産業者

get back to ～　～に折り返し連絡する

it sucks　最悪だ

negotiate with ～　～と交渉する

get 人 to 動詞　人に～させる

push～　～をプッシュする、急かす

Has anyone blown you off when getting a service？

サービスを受ける立場として、約束をすっぽかされたり

連絡をもらえなかった経験はありますか？

ポイント：

人に○○をさせる（getは使役動詞ではないが、使役動詞のような働きを持つ）

get ～ to＋動詞の原形（不定詞のルール）※makeの時は "to" はつけないので注意！

I'll get him to call the travel agent.

私が彼に代理店に電話させるね

Did you get Ed to go get the stuff? Do it yourself!

あなたエドに荷物取りに行かせたの？自分でやりなさいよ！

○○に～させるを使ってみましょう

私はケヴィンにフライトを予約してもらった（させた）

ホテルの車に空港に迎えに来てもらおうよ（hotel car, pick up)

彼はガイドさんに地図を持って来させるつもりなの？

お手洗いに行く間、ケイトに荷物を見ててもらったら（見させておく）？（watch)
