不思議その③：バーベキュー＝グリルソーセージ？？


Aussies love BBQ. But their BBQ is different from our BBQ in Japan. 

I'd say it is quite different. Let's find out the differences.

オージーはBBQが大好き。でも日本とは勝手が違います。

結構違います。どんな違いがあるんでしょうか。

What kind of ～？を使い分けましょう

ポイント：
「どんな～？」と尋ねたいときに使うのはこの2つ
(1)How ＋ 形容詞～？
(2)What kind of 名詞 ～？

例文
How old is this building?
この建物は築どのくらい？
How far do you want to go？
どのくらい遠くまで行きたいの？
What kind of hats are you looking for？
どんな帽子を探してるの？
What kind of teacher is Jim?
ジムはどんな先生ですか？

違いについて質問してみましょう
①オージーはどんなものを焼きますか？
②どんな場所でBBQしますか？
③誰が食べ物を焼きますか？
④どのようにして食べますか？
⑤どのくらいの量を食べますか？
⑥どのくらいの時間BBQをしますか？
⑦どのくらいに一度BBQしますか？


BBQ is sometimes held for charity.
Some societies and associations raise money for a certain purpose.
The most common food sold for fund raising is sausage sizzles 
although some also sell burgers.


for charity　チャリティのために
societies and associations　団体
raise money　寄付金を集める
fund raising　寄付金集め
sausage sizzle　ソーセージシズル
although　～だけれども（接続詞）　


①　Describe the sausage sizzle. 

薄切りの食パン (a piece of thinly sliced bread)の上に、
焼いたソーセージと玉ねぎが乗っています
その上にケチャップがかかっています
紙ナプキンに乗せて渡されます
その場で食べます

②　How much would you pay for one sausage sizzle？

③　How much do you think each sausage sizzle is sold for？

When I ate a sausage sizzle for the first time, I was delighted.
I thought I was delicious！
However it didn’t take long before I realize that 
no matter which BBQ you go to or 
no matter who hosts the BBQ, 
it was always the same grilled sausages!

I prefer Japanese Yakiniku style BBQ.
Because there is a wide variety of food from vegetables, noodles to even seafood.
After living and travelling to some countries, 
I would say that we are so lucky 
to be able to enjoy the diversity of food each day in Japan!

realize　認識する、わかる
no matter～　～に関わらず
host　主催する
a variety of～　様々な種類の～
not only ～ but also...　～だけに限ったことではなく...もまた
the diversity of ～　～の多様性



ポイント：
○○にかかわらず（接続詞として使い、「○○に関わらず～だ」というときに使う）
① no matter 疑問詞+主語＋動詞, ...
② no matter if + 主語 + 動詞 or not, ...

例文
No matter which country you visit, you've gotta respect local customs.
どこの国に行っても、その土地の慣習を尊重しないとね 
No matter what you are going to do, I will support you.
あなたが何をするとしても、私はサポートするよ
No matter if there is a long line or not, we just have to wait for a turn.
行列になってても、順番を待つしかないね
No matter if you go or not, I go.
君が行っても行かなくても私は行くよ。


No matter ○○, ～ を使ってみましょう

①いつ行くかに関係なく、そのレストランはいつも混んでいます😟
②どの食べ物を注文しても、いつもおいしいんです😍
③どれだけ食べても、今日は私のおごりね (my treat)😜
④サービスがいいかどうかに関係なく、チップを置いていかないとね（leave tips)
⑤値段が高いかとかの問題じゃなく、そのワインを飲みたいんだよ

自分の身の回りのことについて、no matter を使って話してみましょう


ポイント：
○○だけではなく...も
not only ○○ but (also) ... (alsoは省かれることも多い）
強調したい単語の前につけられる
動詞をあてはめたいときは分の作り方に注意
Not only do/does/did/can 主語＋動詞, but also 主語＋動詞

例文
I like not only Koalas but also Kangaroos.（名詞）
コアラだけじゃなくてカンガルーも好き
Kangaroos are not only cute but scary.（形容詞）
カンガルーはかわいいだけではなく、怖い
Not only does she surf but also she does the hula.
彼女はサーフィンだけでなく、フラダンスもやる（動詞）


Not only～ but (also) を使ってみましょう

①ポールは英語だけでなく日本語も話す（名詞）
②バンジージャンプはスリルがあるだけではなく楽しい（形容詞）（thrilling)
③彼女は地図をくれただけでなく、街を案内してくれた（動詞）(show us around)
④私は赤ワインだけでなく白ワインも好きなの
⑤エアーズロックは美しいだけじゃなく神秘的（mysterious)
⑥私は友達に会えるだけではなく、観光もできる（go sightseeing)

The vast expenses of parking lot areas in places like Walmart or within the housing projects illustrates its importance. But there is a new issue in parking landscape with two possible solutions. The dilemma: how can city officials implement varying parking charges for different cars to increase revenue while maintaining fairness for car owners? Solution one: What about charging more for cars that emit more pollutants ? It seems sensible considering global focus on climate change. Solution two: What about if we charge larger, heavier vehicles more because they consume more parking space? Both these ideas are being tested worldwide. In the UK, for example, driving a fossil fuel power dirty car in cities like London or Dublin means you'll be paying through the nose . Your parking fee would be double compared to eco-friendly vehicles.
